When you have an uneven smile, you may feel embarrassed or avoid displaying your smile in pictures with friends or family. In addition, misalignment can actually hurt the overall health of your smile. As a less noticeable alternative to braces, we offer the unique and practically invisible Invisalign system.
Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign
Question: What is Invisalign?
Answer: This innovative orthodontic system allows the doctors to correct your misalignment without the use of metal brackets and wires. Instead, a series of clear plastic aligners will be created that gradually reposition your teeth to an optimal setting. About every two weeks, you will upgrade to a new set of aligners.
Question: Why do I need to treat misalignment?
Answer: Uneven teeth make thorough tooth brushing and flossing difficult, allowing bacteria and stray food particles to remain caught between teeth. This boosts the risk of tooth decay and gum disease, which can lead to infection, abscess, and even tooth loss. The jaw strain that often accompanies misalignment can also lead to bruxism (teeth grinding) and TMJ disorder.
Question: How often do I need to wear the aligners?
Answer: You will need to wear the aligners all day and night, removing them only for meals. The entire treatment period typically lasts around a year for adults, but teens may require up to 18 months for optimal results. Of course, the exact amount of time needed will depend on the severity of the patient’s misalignment.
Question: Who qualifies for clear braces?
Answer: We recommend this treatment option for patients with minor misalignment over the age of 15. To see if you qualify, we will perform an examination of your teeth and jaw. If you have any questions or concerns about the Invisalign clear braces system please contact our office today.
