Have you been considering the idea of replacing your missing teeth with dental implants? If so, you probably have a solid handle on the components of this tooth replacement solution: first, we will place dental implant posts into your empty sockets. Then we will “restore” or top the post with the visible portion of your tooth, such as a dental crown. For this first step, we find that patients often wonder what to expect, particularly since this requires surgery and healing time. Wait no longer – look over the frequently asked questions and answers below:
Implant Placement FAQ
Question: What’s the first step in placement?
Answer: First, we will take images of your mouth using advanced technology, such as digital 2D and 3D X-rays. This will allow us to create a detailed, accurate care plan so we may strategically place the posts in the optimal locations.
Question: How do you decide where to place the posts?
Answer: We consider both the way your teeth will fit together when you bite down, as well as what your smile will look like upon completion. We even make sure the placement will complement your resting face, so your teeth replacement results in a truly beautiful appearance.
Question: What happens during surgery?
Answer: To place dental implants, we will first numb the site and surrounding area. Over the course of approximately 60 minutes, we will surgically implant the titanium posts into your empty sockets and into your jawbone.
Question: What happens after surgery?
Answer: You will need to allow time for the posts to fuse to your bone, so they will completely restore your tooth’s roots, while offering exceptional stability. This will take approximately four months. After the bonding occurs during a process called osseointegration, we will schedule your appointment to restore the implants.
