02 About Dr. Stephen

Specialist care, integrated practice.

Dr. Stephen Kallaos earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1995. He completed his Certificate in Periodontics at the University of California, San Francisco in 1998, with extensive specialty training in implant surgery, oral medicine, intravenous conscious sedation, and both surgical and non-surgical periodontics. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, the formal designation for board certification in the specialty.

Dr. Kallaos treats the full range of periodontal conditions, including gingivitis, advanced gum disease (periodontitis), gum recession, and periodontal infections. His clinical work includes scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery, soft tissue grafting, crown lengthening, and dental implant placement. Dr. Kallaos also maintains a California State permit for conscious sedation, allowing him to provide IV sedation in our office for surgical periodontal cases that require it. Most general dental practices refer these cases out, which adds appointments, costs, and complexity. Dr. Kallaos treats them in-house at our Downey office.

Working alongside our general dentists Dr. Hadis Reyhani and Dr. Kiro Farag, Dr. Kallaos ensures that periodontal care is integrated into your broader dental treatment rather than handled in isolation. When a routine cleaning reveals gum issues, when an implant case requires bone evaluation, or when persistent gum bleeding needs specialist attention, Dr. Kallaos is already part of the team.

Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Kallaos takes a calm, educational approach with every patient. Periodontal treatment can sound intimidating, but he makes a point of explaining what is happening, why it matters, and what the realistic outcome looks like, so patients understand their care rather than just receiving it.

05 Philosophy

The foundation matters most.

You can have the most beautiful crowns or veneers in the world, but if the gums and bone underneath are not healthy, none of it lasts. My job is to make sure the foundation is solid, so the rest of the dentistry can do its job for decades, not years.
